Animals are more than ever a test of our character, of mankind’s capacity for empathy and for decent, honourable conduct and faithful stewardship. We are called to treat them with kindness, not because they have rights or some claim to equality, but in a sense because they don’t; because they stand unequal and powerless before us.

“The best way to look at countries on a map is like a chalk outline drawn by the police when someone dies… what you are seeing with the borders are just outlines of historical crimes… past warlords… empires… its nothing to be loyal to. Have loyalty to reason, to evidence, to ideals… not to lines drawn up mostly by criminals” —Stefan Molyneux (via socraticapology)

I love both the militant activist (smashing buildings, fighting cops, ect) and the pacifist activist (doing sit-ins, starting a community garden, ect), they both do a good job, and I think, without each other, they are weak, combined, they can change the world

Although I do respect the pacifist ones more, they have incredible self restraint.

“They attacked, shot at people, burned their tents. The square had a big stage to make speeches and to make plays and songs, loudspeakers and this sort of thing. They killed them [protesters]… and at 0300 [0100 GMT], they brought bulldozers and finished it all. There is nothing there. They are even cleaning it so no-one can guess that there was anything like that before.” —A doctor in the city, Abdulkadir al-Gunaid, told the BBC that security forces were erasing all traces of the protests in Freedom Square. Security forces in Yemen have shot dead at least 20 anti-government protesters in the southern city of Taiz, medics and organisers say. Oh my. Everyone is misinterpreting what I had to say. I would like to begin by saying I’ve never ripped the wings off of a cicada before in my life. I have stepped on a few and mowed over a few, yes. You really think I’m fucked up?

So… Why exactly DID you say that then?

People complain when I try and rip the wings off of a cicada because it’s “cruel”. Believe me, I understand where you’re coming from but, bugs are hardly living at all. They’re mostly stimulated by senses and that’s it. They smell a certain pheromone, hear a certain sound, detect a certain color and react. That’s it. Like a computer. Not living.

Humans are computers too.

You better not rip my arms off.

We can only hear certain sound frequencies.

We can only smell a range of smells.

We can only see so far.

There are animals out there with better sense of smell, sight, and hearing than us. In fact, there are lots of them. You are just trying to justify your fucked up behaviors.

“Some people say homosexuality is a sin. It’s not. God is perfectly cool with it, God feels the exact same way about homosexuality that God feels about heterosexuality. Now you might say, ‘Whoa, slow down. You move too fast. How could you have the audacity, the temerity, to speak on behalf of God?’ Exactly, that’s an excellent point and I pray that you remember it.” —(via sebasseasterly, muffdiver) (via kaitlynnej) (via antigovernment)

Turning the Camera: Why Are Cops Allowed to Film Citizens, But Citizens Not Allowed to Film Police Brutality? → alternet.org

antigovernment:

leftish:

As more police officers use cameras to monitor our every move, they’re discovering the power of video — and they don’t want it turned against them.

Law enforcement officials, of course, don’t like the cellphone cameras because they don’t want any check on police power. So they’ve resorted to fearmongering allegations about lost lives. But the only police officers who are threatened by cellphone cameras are those who want to break civil liberties laws with impunity. The rest have nothing to worry about and everything to gain from a practice that simply asks them to remember the all-too-forgotten part of their “protect and serve” motto — the part about protecting the public’s civil rights.

“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.” —Dalai Lama (via cwnl)

The Zeitgeist Movement: Mountebank Wins Nobel for Infinite Planet Theory → zeitgeistmovement.tumblr.com

zeitgeistmovement:

Few people have read the dense volumes published by the economist Milton Mountebank, but his work has affected you, me and every single person on the planet. Dr. Mountebank has revolutionized economic thought, and now he has been recognized for his singular efforts. Yesterday at a gala…

From what I have understood, this has to be a fucking joke?

I mean… Really? A sphere doesn’t have an end, therefore the earth doesn’t?

Did he drop out of school before he learnt about mass? What the actual fuck?

This IS a troll, right? I’m gonna go look for other sources.

[edit] I googled it, there was this exact report on about five different websites…

But it was from yesterday… This is troll…

End the War on Drugs! → avaaz.org

liberationfrequency:

This is a non-government agency, you might want to sign this petition. Share this to as many people as possible!

To Ban Ki-moon and all Heads of State:

“We call on you to end the war on drugs and the prohibition regime, and move towards a system based on decriminalisation, regulation, public health and education. This 50 year old policy has failed, fuels violent organised crime, devastates lives and is costing billions. It is time for a humane and effective approach.”

I hope everyone realizes that it will NOT go away. The government makes money off it. People get jobs off it. It would be wonderful if our fucked up society could just wake the fuck up and realize, “Oh shit, we are causing all this pain and killing and hate, for money, which if we used the right way, we wouldn’t need to do that.”

I dunno, I’m terrible at explaining things right now but still.
